Leupold Tactical Scopes

Leupold Scopes are the only scopes endorsed by the ODHA. The reason is quite simple. No rifle scope beats Leupold in quality and performance, regardless of price!!

Over the years we have owned, sold, mounted, and tested just about every brand of scope available. None seem to have as many of our required features and qualities as the Leupold's. Those qualities include dependability, ruggedness, good looks, clarity, and the correct balance of magnification, eye relief , and field of view. Since we almost exclusively use variable power models, maintaining point of aim at different powers is mandatory, as is minimizing the affects of parallax.

Most all scopes have good qualities and when you peer through them and look across a store or a wide open field they all seem to be pretty clear, but there are many other things to consider. Consider the Leupold warranty. They will repair or replace any defective scope, even if you were not the original purchaser. That means you can pick up a used Leupold from a gun show or buddy with complete confidence. The reason is the quality--they don't have defects!!

I have learned over the years that the scope is just as important, or maybe more important, than rifle. Most all rifles will keep bullets in a two inch circle at 100 yards, but if you can't see what you are aiming at because that old scope has fog inside it, or the zero has changed, even the most accurate rifle will not hit the mark.

I know a Leupold can be expensive, but you can get some good buys, especially on slightly used scopes , about April 15th when income tax is due. You can also get a Leupold 4x for about the price of a cheap Brand X 3x9. You can see better, hit a heck of a lot more deer, and be more socially acceptable with a 4x Leupold, than a Brand X Variable. Old men will marvel at your wisdom and young women will gaze upon you with awe.

Let me give you a hint on how to get a near free scope. It takes a short investment of a little cash, but do a little homework and check this little trick. When you see used guns for sale with a scope, the gun will be worth most of the asking price. Dealers always take good scopes off rifles and sell each of them separately. Look around in newspapers for rifles for sale and find an almost new rifle and scope for sale. If the asking price seems reasonable, ask how much the seller wants for the rifle and he will almost always ask a high price for the gun. After you establish the price for the gun, offer him the difference for the scope. If that does not work, buy the the outfit and sell the rifle. In the off season, you can pick up a like new 3x9 Leupold for half price or less with one of these two methods.

The ODHA never pays retail price for anything we use. The Internet has provided new highways to low prices. The first place to find good deals is right here on the Internet. Check out Cheaper Than Dirt at the link below. There prices are up to 50% below retail. If you are new to the Internet, news groups are narrated discussion groups that post e-mails of a specific subject on the Internet. Two of these news groups of interest to the ODHA are rec.hunting and rec.guns. You can look for items for sale or post a message for an item that you want to buy. Thousands of hunters and shooters will see your request, and I have always had good luck finding scopes for good prices.  My favorite place to shop for guns and gear is gunsamerica.com .  They have great deals there and you can also sell you used guns and gear there tool.

Leupold Tactical Scopes

Leupold tactical scopes are what all other tactical optic are judged by. They are available in several models and power levels and can fill any need you have for tactical or sporting requirement. Below are summaries of the features of each model, including the new Tactical Spotting Scope.

Mark 4Scopes
The  Mark 4 design delivers edge-to-edge optical sharpness and excellent low-light capability. Use the Mark 4 side focus knob to adjust parallax from 50 yards to infinity while in the shooting position. All come with a lens shade and Butler  Creek Flip Open lens covers.

The oversized adjustment knobs on Mark 4 M1 10x40mm and Mark 4 M1 16x40mm give you audible and tactile confirmation of each 1/4-MOA click and can be zeroed after sighting in. The elevation knob has a horizontal scale for counting adjustment revolutions. The Mark 4 M3 10x40mm has bullet drop compensation marks, 1-MOA elevation clicks, and 1/2-MOA windage clicks. Windage  and elevation can both be reset to zero after sighting in.

VX-II & Vari-X III Tactical Scopes
Each of these variable power tactical scopes offer the tactical shooter 1/4-MOA clicks and 15-MOA adjustment for each revolution,  combined with an impeccable sight picture for total confidence and control. The Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Tactical and the Vari-X III 4.5-14x40mm Adj. Obj. Tactical also have built-in range estimating, employing the standard Duplex reticle and rear-facing numbers on the power selector ring to approximate the distance to targets. All Leupold tactical scopes are available with our Leupold  Mil Dot ranging reticle.

Long Range Scopes
Leupold is proud to introduce three new Vari-X III scopes to the Long Range lineup for 2003: the Vari-X III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range M1 Matte, the Vari-X III 6.5-20x50mm Long Range M1 Matte, and the Vari-X III 8.5-25x50mm  Long Range M1 Matte with the Leupold Mil Dot reticle.

Each features the new round dot  Leupold Mil Dot reticle (the Vari-X III 4.5-14x50mm Long Range M1 is also available with a Duplex reticle). They all offer Multicoat 4 lens coating for brightness, clarity, and contrast. Side focus parallax adjustment and ergonomic, easy-grip M1 tactical  1/4-MOA adjustment dials make adjustments fast and accurate, even in various  shooting positions. Finally, you get the ruggedness and waterproof integrity  that have made the Vari-X III a legend among optics.

The Leupold Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M1 also offers side focus parallax adjustment and easy-grip M1 1/4-MOA elevation and windage adjustment dials. It is also available with Leupold Illuminated Reticle  Technology.

The Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M3 has a 1/2-MOA windage dial and 1-MOA elevation dial with bullet drop compensation marks. It also is available with Leupold Illuminated Reticle technology. All four scopes have turret mounted side focus and 30mm maintubes.

The Leupold Illuminated  Reticle
In extreme low light, when a reticle can be difficult to distinguish from the target or background clutter, the Leupold Illuminated Reticle gives tactical shooters an advantage. Choose one of 11 intensity settings to match the  light.  None will overwhelm the target or spoil your low-light vision. In bright  light, switch the illumination reticle off and it reverts to a solid black  reticle. Accuracy should never be left up to chance. The Leupold Illuminated reticle is one advantage you should not do without. Available in the Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M3 and the Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm Long Range M1, with a variety of reticle selections
