CZ 452 American Report & Photos by Brad Gilbert For a few years, the CZ had a parkarized finish on the receiver, and a beech wood stock. The American is finished as well as any modern center-fire I have seen. Rem 700 Win. 70 Browning A-bolt Ruger 77. It is as good or better as any of them. I didn't mention that the 22" barrel has a sharp taper about two inches in front of the receiver ring, and then has a very nice gradual taper all the way to the muzzle. The Crown in set in like a target rifle, and the smooth trigger is adjustable for weight. There is no over-travel adjustment. The receiver fastens to the stock with two long screws passing through the trigger guard plate. One is behind the Trigger Guard and the other is just behind the magazine slot. Everything from the receiver forward is free-floated. The magazine is the heaviest, most well made stack magazine I have ever seen on a .22 It has a very positive lock on the front, and the lips are very thick sheet metal, much thicker than old Win. mod 69 and 52's and much better than any Remington or Mossberg I ever handled. I just can't find anything wrong with this gun. My only complaint is that I would have preferred a drilled and tapped receiver instead of the 3/8' grooves, also there is so much roll-marking info on the sides of the receiver, that it obscures the beauty of this highly polished drop forged and machined piece.
